“I shall act as a man”
A Maori woman saved the Waka (long boat) from drifting out to sea. But a woman was forbidden from paddling a Waka. The Maori warriors had gone into the bush. So Waikaka swam to get the canoe and said “I shall act as a man”. And saved all the food that was in the canoe. Her statue is on the rock when you sail into Whakatane from the sea into the river.

Here is the rock. I am trying to stand like Waikaka.

Here is the Waka canoe

We rode our bikes to see Waikaka. We rode 12km there and back on a cycle track.
The Maori children taught us how to jump in the sea the Maori way.
White Island is a volcano named by Captain Cook. It is active and we are going there on Friday by boat. Here is what it looks like.

The lake is green and smells like eggs. 🤢
See the link on You Tube
We will spend about 3 hours walking on the volcano.
